How is your pastured pork different than conventionally raised pork?

Our hogs are out on pasture full time where they have access to pasture/forage for eating, dirt for digging and sunshine. This pasture approach improves the flavor of the pork we raise.  No boring "other white meat" here.
Are your pigs happy?

We prefer the term content. Our pigs get to do what pigs are designed to do - eat lots of forage, root in the dirt and roll in the mud.
When do you have pork available?

We have pork by the cut available year round and you can order here .

For bulk pork (halves and wholes), we finish hogs year round.
Contact us to ask about reserving a half or whole hog.

From time to time, we also have smaller whole hogs in the freezer that are perfect for roasting.
Can I get a half or whole hog cut how I want?

Yes. Once you have reserved your half or whole, we will give our processor your contact information. They will contact you directly to get your cutting instructions. You can decide how you want your chops cut, your sausage packaged and a variety of other options.
Can I get a quarter hog?

No. Most processors we have talked with will only cut a whole or a half a hog. However, we are offering a pork bundle that gives about 30 pounds of pork for our customers who think a half hog may be too large. Check this bundle out in our store.
Where is your pork processed?

Currently, we use Krehbiels, in McPherson. They are a federally inspected plant we have used exclusively for several years. We have been pleased with the finished product and their customer service can't be beat.
Can I have a hog processed wherever I want to?

Not at this time.  It's not cost effective for us to haul a hog here and there across the state.
If I order a whole hog, how much meat will I get?

One hog, depending on the size, will produce approximately 120# of carry out meat. A half, approximately 60#
If I decide to order a whole or half hog, how much will it cost me?

There are three components to the cost of a half or whole:
*the cost of the animal,
*the cost of the processing and
*the freight to get the animal to the processor.

Our current price on pork is $2.50/pound hanging weight. We will use the hanging weight provided by the processor. Please note that the hanging weight is NOT the number of pounds you will put in the freezer.

The processing costs average about $125/half depending on your cutting instructions and the size of the animal.

Freight is $50 per animal or $25/half.

Here is an example of estimated costs for a 190 pound carcass. All weights and prices are approximate and for example purposes only.

A half (95# hanging weight):
95 x $2.50/# + $125 est. processing + $25 freight = $387.50

A whole (190# hanging weight):
190 x $2.50/# + $250 est processing + $100 freight = $775.00

How much freezer space will I need?

One cubic foot of freezer space will hold about 30 pounds of meat. A half hog will require about two cubic feet and a whole about four.
How long can I leave pork in the freezer?

Everything we've read recommends that pork be eaten within a year of processing. It doesn't go bad after that long in the freezer, but the flavor deteriorates. Our recommendation is to not order more than your family can eat in a year. However, we have found packages buried in the bottom of a freezer that were still great.
How do I place an order?

If you're looking to purchase pork by the cut, check out our online ordering option , or contact us .

If you're interested in bulk purchase,   contact us . If you'd like more information about the bulk purchase process, check out our bulk purchase page .

Will you deliver our bulk pork?

You're always welcome to pick up your own pork at the processor. However, we will work hard to get your bulk pork purchases to you in a timely manner.  We also work hard to coordinate our trips to save on time and fuel so you may have to wait a week or two on us.
Can I get a cut that’s not listed on your price page?

It depends on how much notice we are given.  We're happy to accommodate you if we can.
Is it cheaper to buy a half hog?

It depends.  If all you want is some sausage, it’s cheaper to just buy packs of sausage.   If you enjoy pork chops and bacon, then a half is the way to go – it works out to about $6.45/pound. Also, purchasing a half is pretty darn convenient.  No more trying to shop for pork for the week – just pull the cut you want out of the freezer.  Also, with a half, you get to decide how you want your meat cut.
